Tolerance

âTolerance is not so much a loved value as a cerebral assent.â -Krista Tippet (author & podcaster of âOn Beingâ)
Much of life is learning to sit with something that is uncomfortable. I wish that this wasnât true, but it is true â¤ď¸. It can be hard to tolerate distress/discomfort/conflict, but it is not impossible. We as adults even have to remind ourselves that we can tolerate big emotions or challenging circumstances. We do not love this âand it definitely can feel like a âcerebral assentâ to do so.
Ask Yourself:
Is there something that Iâm having trouble tolerating? Why?
Do I often feel entitled? That I shouldnât have to wait/tolerate/suffer?
What do I model for my children in this regard? Do they see me as able to cope, handle complexity, and be flexible?
What is difficult for them to tolerate?
Any small shifts I can make?
Be well. â
