Help Heard Hug
🌟Weekly Inspiration🌟
As parents, every week we are called to care for, comfort, help, listen, love, and attune. Sometimes the problems are big, sometimes they are small. Often we aren’t clear what our child needs in the moment. Sometimes our inclinations miss the mark or our response makes it worse. Sometimes it helps to slow down, look them in the eye, and ask “Do you need Help right now, just want to be Heard, or would you like a Hug?” I like the idea of a kid learning to check in with themselves, speak to what they need, and have that be a comfort. This is good practice for their dating relationships, with their bosses, with their roommates, and with their own children someday.
Ask Yourself:
What comes most naturally to me as a parent: helping, hearing, or hugging? Why?
What is my child’s usual preference?
When they voice a preference, is it easy for me to do as they requested?
When I am upset, which do I prefer from my spouse or a friend?
Do I ask for what I need?
Be well.❤️
